My name is Whitney! I’m currently a 25 year old Floridian, with a disability. My life so far has been a really interesting adventure that I have learned a lot from. Throughout my years, my close friends have enjoyed listening to all of my stories and opinions about my life and living with a disability.
I am so excited to have a brand new, fun, creative outlet in which to express myself! I’d like to use this blog as an outlet, as a medium to say the things I want to say about being an adult with a physical disability. Hopefully I can share some life experiences with you that will make you laugh! I also hope that in some small way, it might help others to see disability in a new light.
Real life is hard at times, and I’m finding growing up to be a bit of a challenge. Though my disability does not effect every single aspect of my life, it’s always going to be a part of me. I love that it’s a part of me! But I don’t always love when everyone else makes disability such a “thing”.
I’ve always felt that I had a good grasp on who I am as a person, but the older I’ve gotten, the more I’ve questioned what kind of human I really want to be, why I let things effect me the way that they do, and how to change for what I view as “the better”.
I know it will take a lot of courage to say everything I want to say and to be honest with the people around me. I am a little nervous to hear everyone’s thoughts on my opinions, but I just want to say what I feel. And no one can be upset with someone because of how they feel!
A few Christmases ago, my Grandma gave me a necklace that has a quote from George Bernard Shaw. It says, “Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.” Well, George, I’m going to talk your words to heart and go for it!
I hope you enjoy!
